E-commerce in India is growing at a very fast pace and obviously has a promising future. In fact, it has given business activities new dimensions for growth and is helping India as a nation to develop faster. E-commerce today in India has become a part and parcel of the lives of many people. The major contributors to the rise of its popularity are the online travel industry and increasing number of digital downloads.

The rise of E-commerce in India in the last few years…

In 2011, The Internet and Mobile Association of India had released a report on the e-commerce industry in India stating that the E-commerce market is expected to grow at around 47% thanks to the consistent expansion and popularity of the online travel industry. This report also mentioned approximately 76% of the total e-commerce market is contributed by the online travel industry today.

Besides the online travel industry, The Internet and Mobile Association of India reported in the same year that digital downloads and the e-tailing industry covering the purchase of home, kitchen, electronic, apparel and jewelry would register a stable growth of 62% to reach Rs 1,100 crores and Rs 2,700 crores respectively by the end of 2011. The predictions were more or less accurate and today in 2015 the ecommerce industry has been growing ever since.
